Dear Professionals:

Are you looking to find a new way to help your clients become unstuck and make peace with their body, relationship with food and develop a more self-compassionate relationship with themselves?

Are you in search of new skills to offer your clients to help them lessen self-harming behavior and increase their agency, empowerment and self-care?

If you answered yes...

Please consider joining me in the BFYB Certification Training, where you will learn how to teach this unique 8-week psycho-educational and skills-based program based on the brain-based knowledge of eating disorders and the world of neuroscience. Come to understand how the skills of somatic self-compassion assist your clients in nervous system and emotion regulation, increase interoceptive awareness, and impact lasting behavioral change. You will witness participants growing in compassionate care toward their bodies and self as self-compassion and self-growth unfold in these 8-weeks.

The program has a unique delivery of self-compassion based on my research that teaches you how to deliver this “life-giving” skill in a way that is received as safe and protective and minimizes the back-draft so often seen in self-compassion work with those that feel unsafe in their bodies.

GET READY TO...

Learn why the evidenced-based skills of interoceptive awareness, mindfulness and self-compassion are critical to long-term recovery, and how to properly deliver these skills in a safe and effective way that allow your clients to safely embody. This somatic-based training will prepare you to deliver this program in a group format or by coaching your client through it individually. The skills you will learn can also be easily integrated into all client sessions, especially those with a trauma background.

Help your clients learn emotion regulation from the inside-out, where their bodies will become a primary source of information and emotional regulation. They will develop the skills necessary to reduce fear and anxiety; and learn how to work with and prevent getting stuck in self-harming and self-critical cycles and re-embody once again.

What You Will Gain

  • An understanding of the Autonomic nervous system according to the Polyvagal Theory as well as “embodying” this theory and how the BFYB Program and its interventions are effective for ANS regulation.

  • Why a trauma-informed approach is so important for our clients.

  • The intersection of socio-cultural beliefs and diet culture and its impact on the nervous system.

  • An in-depth understanding of interoceptive awareness and brain-based knowledge regarding eating disorders and then relationship between IA and ANS regulation.

  • How to effectively intervene in cycles of hyper and hypoarousal and what skills and interventions from the program work to regulate that and why.

  • How to teach your clients about their inner body (nervous system and brain) and its relationship to body image disturbance.

  • The stages of embodiment and the program’s unfolding of these stages to help clients move forward into re-establishing a new relationship with their body.

  • Skills that clients can practice to reconnect and re-establish hunger and fullness cues and bodily sensations for a deeper connection to self and full recovery.

  • A unique and new systematic delivery method of self-compassion.

  • Why our clients need it to be a different delivery method of self-compassion and what that is and the “how” to deliver.

  • Skills of self-compassion and how self-compassion sustains recovery through action and responsibility.

  • The important role of forgiveness in recovery and embodiment.

  • A fully executed manual with detailed word-for-word descriptions of the practices and teachings to guide your clients through.

  • How to deliver the skills both in a group format or individually.

What Professionals Have to Say About the Program…

“If you are working with client with disordered eating of any kind the BFYB training is a must!

Ann’s somatic approach to treating disordered eating is what we have all been waiting for. Not

only is it personally transformative, it provides a safe, powerful, and effective way to help your

clients heal and find freedom again.”

— Kira Lynne, RPC, MPCC, Certified BFYB Teacher

— Melissa Golub, LCSW-R, Certified BFYB Teacher

— Stephanie Armer, LCSW, Certified BFYB Teacher

“I have been working as a therapist in the eating disorder field for nearly two decades and am trained in

somatic therapy practices as well. It hasn’t been until the BFYB training that I have finally seen the path

to working somatically with folks who have eating disorders. I wish everyone could get this information

sooner than I did as it will change your practice.”

— Sarah Alexander, LCSW, Certified BFYB Teacher

The Certification Process

There are two levels to the full certification process: Level 1 and Level 2

Level 1—Personal Growth
Participate in the 8-Week Virtual BFYB Program

Partake in one of my Virtual BFYB Programs held through Zoom (please note the online course does not qualify, only the virtual program). You will join as a participant and work through the program personally, along with others, so you can personally embody and experience the work.

Because the work is experiential, it is VERY important that you, as a practitioner, are willing to participate in the program for your own self-growth, as well as experience the practices before you can effectively train and give these off to another.

*Please note, Level 1 does not prepare you to teach the program nor offer these skills to your clients.

Please check here for the next Level 1 offering.

Level 2—Professional Training
Enroll in the Certification Training

The 6-day Certification takes place through a virtual hybrid method, with both pre-recorded teaching videos and live Zoom sessions where we will meet to learn and practice together.

After the completion of the training you will be required to participate in three (once a month) hour-long Zoom Group Supervision Sessions for final certification. Dates and times to be arranged with the group.

CE credits for clinicians are now available and are provided by the Spiritual Competency Academy (SCA) which is co-sponsoring this program. See below for more details.
