the program’s beginnings
Integrating Evidence-Based Practices and Spirituality
As a Somatic Psychotherapist, my approach to therapy is unique and informed by multiple trainings I have done throughout my clinical career. My research, training and passion for self-compassion practice and the power it has to change up your nervous system and your relationship with yourself, others, and your life, frames all the work I do.
The Befriending Your Body Program was born from my doctoral research, a qualitative, Constructivist Grounded Theory, which explored the role self-compassion played in sustaining recovery. I highlight sustaining as that is what I am most interested in; helping folks find a new way and teaching them the skills necessary to sustain that new way, not just “touch-and go” recovery.
My research turned into my book, Befriending Your Body: A Self-Compassionate Approach to Freeing Yourself From Disordered Eating, and my book informed the creation of the program.
And I said to my body. Softly.‘I want to be your friend.’ It took a long breath. And replied, ‘I have been waiting my whole life for this.’
